Josh Mays published an article on the Ag News Blog on TriEst Ag Group website where he discusses options for low tillage soil fumigation with products like Strike™ and Telone™.
Reduced tillage systems have become a focal point throughout agriculture in recent years. The logic behind incorporating tillage reduction is clear, as there are many benefits associated for both the farmer and the land they tend.
This strawberry field underwent soil fumigation by Trical last fall, resulting in robust, healthy plants that are now approaching harvest. The strong foundation below the surface has significantly contributed to this success.
Growers often rotate crops to improve the physical characteristics of the soil and/or to suppress soil borne diseases. Soil Fumigation suppresses soil-borne diseases better than standard practices which can lead to reduced rotation length and farming your better ground more often.

A North Carolina grower is seeing the power of chloropicrin in his field of bell peppers first hand this year. The left side is untreated and the right side was treated before planting with PicClor60 to give the future peppers a healthy soil foundation for a more vigorous start and improved plant yields.
Soil Fumigation immediately knocks back soil-borne disease giving plants their best start. Suppressed disease allows the native species to rebound in the soil. Trials with major universities have demonstrated an increase of beneficial organisms in soil that has been properly fumigated.

Trical New Zealand has successfully fumigated this block with Tri-Form 60, resulting in robust carrot growth and optimal soil conditions. Tri-Form 60 effectively targets soilborne pests and diseases, fostering an ideal environment for crops to flourish from the outset.
Soil borne diseases attack plant roots making the root system and the plant weaker. Plants treated with Fumigants have stronger root systems and healthier plants that are better at mining for nutrients. The plant is able to find and take up the nutrients it needs. Growers have been able to cut back as much as 20% of the nitrogen used saving $50-100 per acre. Farming disease means wasted water and wasted nitrogen.
This spring in a South Carolina watermelon field, the Toro Tempus™ Ag Automation System is putting the power of precision irrigation and fertigation right into the grower’s palm. With real-time data and remote scheduling, farmers can monitor and control irrigation systems from anywhere – improving crop health, conserving water, and saving time.
